How To Have The Best Bath Experience With These 23 Self Care Bath Ideas

Taking a bath is one of the self care ideas that is a great way of showing yourself love and taking care of yourself. It’s a little bit like therapy and healing yourself from whatever is troubling you.

Having a bath is so much more than washing yourself and getting clean. Compared to a self care shower routine, a bath routine makes you let go completely. You close your eyes and take in the smell and sound around you. It’s not a way of quickly washing yourself, it’s an experience to indulge.

Especially when you have some self love bath rituals that you follow. You can personalize your bath routine with whatever you enjoy doing.

It’s truly relaxing and the benefits of taking a bath have a good impact on your night and the days ahead of you.

Benefits Of Taking A Bath

There’s a reason why we crave so much for a hot bath at the end of the day. There are many benefits of having a bath such as:

  • 1. Relaxation
  • 2. Healing
  • 3. Weight Loss
  • 4. Recreation

1. Relaxation

When you feel stressed or had a hard day, taking a bath is a great way to forget everything around you and focus on yourself. You don’t have to go to a fancy and expensive spa to feel relaxed. Pick a few of the self care bath ideas mentioned below and create your very own spa.

You can do your favorite activities like reading a book or listening to an audio book, while enjoying some good wine.

2. Healing

Soaking your body in hot water can have great healing effects, if you’re suffering from sore muscles, a cold, and other physical illnesses. I love having a bath in winter when I’m sick. Putting a few drops of this eucalyptus oil in the water always helps clear my blocked nose.

3. Weight Loss

Don’t believe me on the weight loss? I recently discovered that taking a bath burns the same amount of calories as going on a 30-minute walk.

So, get into the habit of taking a weekly hour-long bath! The more relaxing your bath, the quicker you fall asleep at night. Getting more hours of sleep also helps you control your weight gain.

4. Recreation

Taking a bath is a great way of doing the things you like. You can read a book, listen to music or a podcast, or even talk to a friend on the phone. OR just close your eyes, have a little nap, and take in the smells of the products you have put in the water.

23 Self Care Bath Ideas For A Relaxing Bath Routine

1. Pick The Right Day & Time

Pick the right day and time for your bath routine. Don’t try to squeeze in a bath between appointments or when you know that you don’t have much time. Nothing worse than rushing around when you actually want to take care of yourself.

Ideally, it’s good to have your bath in the evening, when you have time and don’t need to go anywhere after, except for your bed. Taking a bath is also a cozy activity during autumn and winter.

Don’t have much time for your self-care? Try out these 5-minute self-care activities that help you unwind even on a super busy day!

2. Find The Right Temperature

Picking the perfect temperature is essential to having the best self care bath. If it’s too hot, you will be uncomfortable until it has cooled down, and if it’s too cold, you’re constantly topping it up with hot water, or jumping out of the bath before you were able to do all the great relaxing activities.

Don’t waste time and water and let the digital water thermometer tell you if your bath has got the right temperature.

3. Prepare Your Bathroom

To be able to fully enjoy your bath routine and focus on it, you should prepare your bathroom by:

  • Removing any mess
  • Cleaning the bathtub
  • Picking up clothes off the floor

Create your own bath self care kit! Try out some of these self care bath products for more comfort to make the time you have worthwhile!

4. Make Your Bathroom Comfortable

Make your bathroom comfortable in a way that suits you. For me this means having a diffuser with my favorite essential oils going, lightning some candles and putting up some decoration and plants.

5. Have Snacks And Drinks Ready

You don’t want to sit in the bath for 10 minutes and then get stuck being hungry or thirsty. Sitting in hot water can make you feel very dehydrated. Prepare your best bath routine with some drinks and snacks like:

  • A glass of wine
  • A cup of tea
  • Some water
  • Fruits
  • Chocolate
  • Other snacks you like

6. Music/Podcast

Get your ultimate bath routine playlist ready for you to fully enjoy your bath and the music you like. Listening to a podcast is a good alternative to music. I sometimes prefer the podcasts, as I can concentrate on it better while being in the bath (less distraction around me).

7. Book

Grab your favorite book or one you were meant to start ages ago, or read some self care bath quotes as part of your self care bath ideas.

8. Bath Tray

You’re probably wondering where to put all of your stuff while having a bath? This bathtub caddy tray is super handy! No more reaching down to the floor to grab your things and you don’t have to worry about anything falling into the water.

9. Bath Pillow

For ultimate comfort while you enjoy your bath, consider getting a bathtub pillow – it is THE BEST! I could stay in the water forever . . .

10. Bath Mat

Hate the feeling of sliding up and down in the bath? Me too! That’s why I got myself this bath mat which makes me enjoy my bath experience even more.

11. Face Mask

There’s a bit of time to kill when having a bath. So why not put a face mask on to practice more self-care and do something good for your skin? There are so many face masks to choose from. I love having a collection handy and then choose one depending on what mood I’m in that day.

12. Bath Bubbles Or Salt

I couldn’t imagine having a bath without the smell and feel of bubbles or salts. I especially love the Pure Epsom Salt products which come in different variations. Do you have trouble falling asleep at night? Try out this Melatonin Sleep Soak salt.

Bubble Bath Ideas

You can also give a few drops of essential oils into your bath – according to this Healthline article, the oils calm your mind and soothe tired muscles (especially lavender and eucalyptus).

13. Body Wash

Pamper yourself with a special body wash that you only use for your bath time routine. Don’t use it when you have a shower. This makes you look forward to having a bath and it will be a more special experience for you.

14. Exfoliating Scrub

Want your skin to feel fresh and rejuvenated? Taking a bath is the perfect occasion to use an exfoliating scrub and have an ultimate bath time routine experience.

15. Loofah Or Body Scrubber

To leave your skin smoother than ever, consider using a loofah sponge, a body scrubber, or a natural loofah sponge.

16. Back Brush

Don’t forget about your back! We tend to not give it much attention since it’s so hard to reach. With this back brush, you’ll be able to get to every area of your back and you can get rid of any impurities.

17. Bath Massager

This bath massager tops it off for me and is one of my favorite self care bath ideas – absolutely love it! It makes my bath routine so relaxing and worthwhile.

18. Shower Cap

If you’re not planning on washing your hair in the bath, you should wear a shower cap to protect it from getting greasy and wet.

19. Relax

Now you have all your self care bath products ready, it’s time to relax! Make sure no one will disturb you, so you have peace and quiet to let go of your day.

I love reading my book in the bath or just meditating and enjoying the silence. Make your self care bath a special experience and do all the things you love. There’s no right or wrong, it’s YOUR bath routine and it needs to work for you.

You can also do some journaling if you like. Here are some journaling prompts for beginners and self-compassion prompts for you to get started.

Or you can reflect on the past month using some reflection questions.

20. Have Towel Ready

The list of self care bath ideas doesn’t stop just yet! I love getting out of the bath and feeling the soft towel on my skin. End your bath with these super soft cotton towels – it is such an indulgence!

21. Robe

A lightweight bath robe will keep you warm after getting out of the water without feeling heavy on your body. While you wait to be fully dry, you can start cleaning up the bath room before heading onto your skincare routine.

22. Skincare Routine

These are a few skincare products I love using, but feel free to finish your self care bath routine with whatever you usually use.

23. Have Pajamas + Socks Ready

Have your favorite pajamas and fluffy socks ready to continue your coziness. Make sure you get clean ones out of your wardrobe. Another tip: if you have time, change your bed with fresh linen, it is such a great feeling hopping into a clean bed after having had a bath.

There you go! Here is my bath routine and all the self care bath ideas I use to create an ultimate way of relaxing my mind and body.

All these things combined will make the best and most relaxing bath for you!
